The Biography of Barbara Goshu

Barbara Goshu is a Polish national, educated in the medieval city of Krakow. She studied graphic arts, painting and sculpture at Krakow University′s Academy of Fine Arts, one of Europe′s oldest and most prestigious institutes of higher learning. During her studies, Barbara was drawn to the mystery of Russian, Byzantine and Greek iconography. When she arrived to Ethiopia with her husband, she was particularly taken with the colorful stories of Ethiopia, the land of the queen of Sheba. Barbara responded passionately to the richness of Ethiopian civilization, immersing herself in the study of its art, culture and history. Once again the icon ­ this time in its Ethiopian form ­ fascinated her and she creates icons on wood, and paints magnificent paintings on rock as an outlet for her talent and as a method of understanding her new home.


The Biography of Worku Goshu

Worku Goshu is a prominent Ethiopian modern artist. Worku joined the School of Fine Arts in Addis Ababa from which he graduated in 1963. That same year, he left Ethiopia for Poland and spent six years studying Art in the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he met his wife, Barbara. He particularly focused on Pure and Applied Graphic Art. After graduating from Krakow, Worku and Barbara returned to Ethiopia and started a joint career, producing works that have been displayed in numerous national and international exhibitions. Today, their paintings are all over the world. Worku has taught at the School of Art and Design of Addis Ababa for twenty­seven years. Presently, Worku owns the Goshu Art Gallery in Addis Ababa with his wife Barbara.
